326: When Dogs Try

Prince was once asked when he decided to become a musician. He replied that when he was in high school he decided that he needed to find a job, so he looked in the phone book to try finding a place he wanted to work. He looked and looked, but he couldn’t find anything he wanted to do. He realized that the only thing he wanted to do was be a musician, so he decided to just work really hard at that until he made it.

Very inspiring. I think the lesson in all of this is to just keep digging until you find something. With that in mind let’s turn to todays song. “When Dogs Try” is a parody of Prince’s smash hit “When Doves Cry.”

Don’t overthink it.

When Dogs Try

Dig, if you will, the gravel
You’re a dog, and this is a ditch
The sound of your drooling bothers me
Can you my doggy?
Can you dig for this?

Dig anything in the whole yard
Anything you can exhume
Dig underneath all the roses
Dig in the peat
The Pine needles cover you

How come the dirt isn’t bothered?
Out of the hole comes a mole
Maybe the dirt isn’t landing
Maybe you have to dig farther to find gold

Maybe it’s not worth the bother
Maybe you’d like a french fry
Why does it seem to be dusty?

That’s just how the hounds play
And dirt flies
Yeah, this is what it seems like
When dogs try

Maybe the dirt isn’t landing
Maybe you have to dig farther to find gold
Maybe it’s not worth the bother
Maybe you’d like a french fry
Why does it seem to be dusty?
That’s just how the hounds play
And dogs try

When dogs try (Dogs try, dogs try)
When dogs try (Dogs try, dogs try)
Dogs try (Dogs try)
When dogs try
When dogs try
When dogs try
When dogs try (Dogs try, dogs try, dogs try)
Dogs try
Digging dogs try
Dogs try
Dogs try
Dogs, dogs try
